Expendable difference-maker: Davion Mitchell

After being the surprise of the NBA last season in which they finished with the third-best record in the Western Conference standings, the hope was that the Sacramento Kings could remain on that encouraging path toward contention. Sacramento remains in the thick of the top of the West standings but this is still a team that likely remains a piece or two away from competing with the likes of a team like the Denver Nuggets.

One player that they could or should use in an attempt to land a piece that fits better is Davion Mitchell. With as much production as they've gotten from other guards on their team, there's an argument to be made that Mitchell is an expendable asset on the roster.

Considering that Mitchell only has one year (after this season) remaining on his rookie deal, the Kings are going to have to make a decision on him quickly. But with a dwindling role on the team, I'd have to believe there are real conversations inside the front office regarding the possibility of moving on from Mitchell before he hits the restricted free agency market.
