The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t yet had their long overdue championship parade, but LeBron James’ next move is already being pondered

LeBron James has fulfilled his promise to the city Cleveland. He won a championship for “The Land.” He ended the 52-year championship drought that the city has endured. He put on a show, leading the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history.

James has accomplished his greatest career feat, and reasserted his dominance over Stephen Curry for at least the time being.

However, the NBA is summer is long and with LeBron sitting out the Olympics – where he has already won two gold medals – there will be plenty of time to assess where the superstar goes from here.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Chief among them, will James be in a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey next year?

With the NBA’s new bargaining agreement taking effect next season, the salary cap is expected to go up astronomically come October. He was already set to make a king’s fortune, but as a champion and reigning Finals MVP, he’s set to make even more so.

Nearly every team in the NBA would be ready to make the necessary moves if James is interested. However, the Cavaliers have proven they can not only compete but win against the best teams in the league in a seven game series.

Even if James were enticed by the prospect of reuniting with Dwyane Wade and joining his reloaded Miami squad, for example, he’s aware that he would be leaving an already proven winning formula for an unknown one.

There’s also the image that LeBron James has built up. He was once vilified for leaving Cleveland once. Even after winning a title at home, it’s hard to imagine his reputation surviving if he left again.

A more important question is what his supporting cast will look like next season. Kevin Love had a redeeming performance on the boards in Game 7 with 14 rebounds. But the fact remains, the Cavaliers won in spite of him in the Finals rather than because of him.

To be clear, Love was a part of the Cavalier’s success this year and has earned his championship ring as much as J.R. Smith or any other player.

But, is he the best piece for the Cavs continued success?

One move that has garnered momentum would be a deal involving Love for the Knicks Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony’s scoring and ability to be the third offensive threat for Cleveland would go well on a team that could drive and kick the ball to him on the perimeter or utilize him in the low post.

Keep in mind, LeBron’s dream team is one that includes Melo along with Wade and Chris Paul.

Regardless, James has come through on the expectations on him since he emerged as “The Chosen One” at St. Vincent – St. Mary’s in Akron, Ohio.

It took longer than all involved would have liked, and included a rather phenomenal run in South Beach, Florida. But, he brought the title he promised.

James is the seasoned veteran in a league full of electric superstars. With this championship in his pocket, he now enters the chase to see how many more he can add to his final total before his competition catches up to him.

After seven-straight Finals, does he have another one left in him? His performances this past month would say that he does.

The only thing left is to wait and enjoy the show again next year.
