Tony Allen, also known as “The Grindfather”, is the best defensive off-guard in the NBA. His combination of effort, intelligence, and natural talent, has made him a thorn in the side of many NBA greats. That being said, he’s a truly awful offensive player. For example, despite being the beneficiary of numerous open looks (thanks to Memphis’ inside-out offense), Allen has only managed to shoot 21.7% from three since 2011.
Furthermore, there’s evidence (when looking at his RPM splits from 2013-2014) that Allen’s defensive prowess is eroding, a likely symptom of his age (Allen will turn 33 next season). For all these reasons (and a few yet to be revealed), Tony Allen is the first player to have his ranking “arbitrarily” lowered.
