Gaining Experience with Gay
Another former Toronto Raptor, Rudy Gay, was a late addition to the team. When he notified USAB that he was available, they immediately pulled the trigger and made the call to Gay.
And why not? With a team lacking in international experience, Gay’s role in the 2010 World Championships could come a long way.
The versatile 6’8” forward played all nine games for Team USA in 2010, averaging 7.0 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest. Gay was also one of the final players who were cut from the 2012 Olympic team. So his experience isn’t only from playing internationally, but he’s been a part of the USAB program since 2005.
"[via ESPN.com] “‘We both felt he would be a valuable addition because of his outstanding skills and the fact that he is so familiar with USA Basketball and our national team program,’ Colangelo said Friday in a statement. ‘Rudy has been an integral member of USA Basketball since 2005 and was a tremendous contributor to our 2010 world championship team. He has a lot of equity in the USA Basketball national team.’”"
