Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade says he’s struggling to find his new role on the team’s new offense

It was predictable that life after LeBron James wasn’t going to be easy for the Miami Heat. That much was not going to be a surprise. What was, though, is how much more difficult it ends up being. Probably a whole lot more than originally thought.

And that’s what the Miami Heat have to deal with this season, specifically Dwyane Wade.

On a team in which LeBron often compensated for lack of productivity, it’s Wade’s job to find his personal identity again — and his role on a team that’s going to need much more than he’s offered the past four years. It’s much simpler for Chris Bosh. He’ll be the new leader of the team. Wade, though, doesn’t have the luxury to be in the same position. Wade isn’t the player that he was in 2009, before the big three decided to come to Miami.

He needs to re-find his role, and it isn’t going as smooth as he thought it would.

"[via Wade ready to go on attack, when given the call — Sun-Sentinel]“I’m still finding my way with this team and this offense,” he said, as the Heat prepare to play in their exhibition finale against the Houston Rockets.  “So I’m still trying to see where I fit in. I know I can get a shot any time I want, but it’s about the quality of it more so than anything. I’m just playing the game and just seeing.”“This early offense that we started in camp is more so to get our guys to better ball movement,” he said. “So now Coach is starting to get to the point where it’s time now to put in a package for C.B. [Chris Bosh] and myself, and it will kind of be what we do for the next week, week and a half.”"

The offense was clearly going to change without LeBron this season; it was clearly going to take some time to adjust. At the same time, the fact that Wade still doesn’t exactly know his role on the Miami Heat’s offense when we’re about a week from the NBA regular season opener shouldn’t be alarming.

It’s going to take some time for all parties involved. The real trouble would be if Wade losses another step. He’s the one player the Miami Heat can’t afford to lose, not at this point.
