After one game this season, things aren’t exactly “looking up” for the New York Knicks. However, none of that was unexpected. After all, their “master plan” has always revolved around the Summer of 2015.

Though, that plan could’ve been jumpstarted this past offseason with one simple signing — at a discount. It didn’t happen as Pau Gasol decided to choose the Chicago Bulls instead of the New York Knicks.

Even though Gasol chose the Bulls, the 34-year-old forward said that he indeed “considered” the New York Knicks. Ultimately, he decided to sign with the greener pastures in Chicago.

"[via Pau Gasol on why he didn’t pick Knicks — but his brother might — New York Post]“I considered them just because of different factors, mainly Phil and Derek being involved, the Knicks being a great organization as well,” Gasol said after shootaround ahead of the two teams’ season opener. “It would’ve been interesting, but I thought there were better situations for me.”"

The most interesting thing that Gasol to the Post though, had nothing to do with his free agency this past offseason. It had to do with his brother, Marc, who is on track to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Pau said that his brother, Marc, might ultimately decide to sign with the New York Knicks in 2015.

"Pau said it’s “possible” his brother could wind up in New York.“We’ll see what happens next year what he decides and hopefully he’ll have a strong year and all the options in the world because he’s one of the top centers, interior players in the league, so any team would be fortunate to have him,” Pau said. “It’s a personal decision. I talked to my brother enough about Phil that he knows what he brings to the table.”"

The Knicks will likely be around $20 million under the salary cap next summer. And with Phil Jackson on board, the Knicks will finally have a good as chance as any team to make a big splash in free agency. Something that they failed to do in 2010, unless you call Amar’e Stoudemire a “big splash.”

Marc has been on record saying that he wants to remain with the Grizzlies, but once he sits down with Jackson anything can happen.
