Development Of The “Others”
Even if the Knicks do manage to snag a stud in the NBA draft, and a more than capable free agent in the summer, they’re still going to need a supporting cast to be even remotely good in the Eastern Conference.
And another element of Carmelo Anthony taking the rest of the season off in order to get his health right would be how the rest of the team reacts. Which players take advantage of the opportunity, and which players don’t.
Simply by that, Phil Jackson could get an even better look at each player not named Carmelo Anthony. Which players are worth keeping or re-signing, versus, which players aren’t worth that trouble.
Finding the “others” is just another part of finding a road back to relevance.
