If you’re into conspiracy theories, and if you believe the reports that have been out there that suggest DeMarcus Cousins‘ camp is against a George Karl hiring in Sacramento, the Kings rumored next move is going to ruffle some feathers.
According to many close to the situation, it’s pretty clear that George Karl will be hired as the next head coach of the Sacramento Kings.
"[via Carmichael Dave — CBS Sacramento]The George Karl hiring is all but inevitable. Timing of announcement along with the 2 remaining games before break factor.Barring a last minute setback, George Karl will be the next Kings head coach. Most likely to take effect during all-star break. It seems most logical that Karl’s first game as Kings coach would be at home vs the Celtics Feb. 20th.With all the moving pieces, I would imagine a leak happens tonight, official announcement with presser over break. My guess at the timeline."
Whether the reports of Cousins’ camp being against the hiring of Karl was true or not, you have to believe that the Kings front office checked in, at the very least, with Cousins prior to ultimately making this move. The last thing that Sacramento needs, or should want, is their best player — and a budding superstar in the NBA — to be disgruntled because of a head coaching hire.
Then again, they did disrespect Isaiah Thomas all of last season, and essentially let him walk in the offseason for absolutely nothing in exchange. So, who really knows what the Kings are thinking?
Lastly, Carmichael Dave dropped this gem via Twitter earlier today: George Karl has missed the playoffs three times in his career, and the last time he finished under .500? 1987.
He seems like a solid hire for a Sacramento Kings team that has been looking for to right their franchise for the better part of the last decade. Hiring Karl was the move that needed to be done.
Per Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the rumored deal will be around four-years, $4-$5 million per year.
"The Sacramento Kings and George Karl are progressing on a four-year contract worth between $4 million to $5 million a season to become coach of the Sacramento Kings, league sources told Yahoo Sports."
