NBA Free Agency: Overpaid, Bargain Or Just About Right

Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs
Contract: 5-years, $90 million
Considering that some of his counterparts that were also up for contract extensions received $30-$50 million more than what Leonard and the Spurs agreed to, this is a hug win for San Antonio’s future.
With the expected explosion to the salary cap that will take place over the next two summers, this contract — along with the expected progression of Leonard — is going to look better and better with every passing season. Not only will this extension give the Spurs flexibility heading into the future but, most importantly, it locks up one of the best two-way players in the NBA for the next five seasons.
Verdict: Bargain
