NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Also Intrigued By Jamal Crawford

NBA Rumors: In addition to the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat have expressed interest in trading for Jamal Crawford

The Miami Heat, despite a disappointing first season in their post-LeBron James era, had a pretty successful offseason.

Not making the playoffs – finishing with a 37-45 record last season – ended up being a blessing in disguise for this club, allowing them to snag Justise Winslow, who was projected to go a lot higher than at No. 10 by many draft experts. The rest of the top-10’s loss was Miami’s gain.

But even that wasn’t their highest moment of the summer.

After playing the negotiating game with Dwyane Wade – and probably numerous fabricated stories from both sides – the Heat and their most storied player in franchise history found a nice medium in the way of a one-year, $20 million deal.

That, on top of the Heat re-signing Goran Dragic and also adding quality bench pieces in Amar’e Stoudemire and Gerald Green, including the return of health for Chris Bosh and Josh McRoberts, and you can see why it’s hard not to get excited about this upcoming season in Miami.

And they might not even be finished.

According to the New York Daily News’ Frank Isola, the Heat have also expressed interest in Los Angeles Clippers veteran sixth man Jamal Crawford. The Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks are also reportedly intrigued.

"[via New York Daily News]The Knicks have expressed interest in acquiring Clippers guard Jamal Crawford, according to a source.Coincidentally, the Cavs are also pursuing a deal for Crawford, the 34-year-old former Sixth Man of the Year. Miami is another team that is also interested in Crawford. It is unclear what the Clippers are asking for in return."

In terms of assets, the Miami Heat don’t have much. And what little they had entering their post-LeBron era, they traded most of it to the Phoenix Suns for Goran Dragic.

They have been trying to shop Mario Chalmers and Chris Andersen for most of the summer, so perhaps the Clippers could be intrigued by any combination of those two. While Chalmers and Andersen would help solidify the Clippers’ bench, I’m not sure how much weight, if any, those two players hold on the trade market.

Probably not much.

With that said, as we’ve witnessed numerous of times over the last handful of years, you can never quite count out Pat Riley and the Heat.
