NBA Rumors: With all the issues in the Sacramento Kings franchise popping up, it may be time to trade DeMarcus Cousins and start over

Earlier this week there were rumblings that the Sacramento Kings locker room was in disarray, and was ultimately signaled by DeMarcus Cousins calling for a players only meeting. That is never good news for any team.

By the time the players only meeting takes place, the team is already lost. And that certainly seems to be the case with the Kings. However, now that details from said meeting were released, it seems that things are a bit worse than we all expected.

Apparently, Cousins cussed at or in direction of Kings head coach George Karl in front of the team and/or some front office officials. In response, because of emasculating him in front of the team, Karl wanted to suspend Cousins for two games. Kings GM Vlade Divac was having none of that, however.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via The Sacramento Bee]According to league sources, Kings coach George Karl wanted to suspend DeMarcus Cousins for two games following Tuesday morning’s team meeting after the All-Star center allegedly directed a profanity-laced tirade toward the coach. The sources asked not to be identified because they are unauthorized to speak on the matter. The sources went on to say Kings general manager Vlade Divac said Karl did not have authority to suspend Cousins nor would grant permission."

Ever since Karl took the job in Sacramento, it was thought that there was a power struggle taking place between the head coach and the front office/Cousins. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. There’s no power struggle taking place, because there’s no power for Karl to be had. Mostly because it sounds like the Kings don’t want to piss of Cousins anymore than they already have.

The likely scenario points towards another head coaching change for Sacramento, even if Divac is currently denying that right now. However, that shouldn’t be the course of action taken.

Unless the Kings go directly to Cousins and ask him to hand-pick the team’s next coach, this issue is going to keep popping up. And because I don’t see that happening, because that would be a dumb move for Divac and the Kings, I believe it’s in the best interest of the franchise going forward to simply cut ties with Cousins.

Most, if not all, of the Kings’ issues have stemmed from DeMarcus Cousins. He’s had a hand in almost every issue for this team. And if they sell now on him, they can certainly get something significant in return. How about that unprotected first-round pick from the Boston Celtics (via Brooklyn)?

Or maybe a package centered around Bradley Beal and Marcin Gortat from the Wizards? Or maybe the Lakers revisit the rumored trade proposals from this past summer? The Kings will have a market. And the more issues that pop up, the more it makes sense for the Kings to simple blow everything up and start from scratch.
