In this week’s NBA Power Rankings edition, we discuss the San Antonio Spurs finally overtaking the Golden State Warriors as the best team in the NBA
At one point this season, we were just wondering how many games the Golden State Warriors were going to win the NBA Finals over the Cleveland Cavaliers in. We didn’t suspect anyone beating them during the playoffs or Finals.
That narrative, over the last few weeks, has quickly changed.
Thanks to the San Antonio Spurs.
Now, it’s who will finish with homecourt for the Western Conference Finals between the Warriors and Spurs. And, if we’re lucky, which one of them will finally break the Chicago Bulls’ regular season 72-win record. Heck, I don’t think anyone would be surprised if both of them broke it this season.
And that’s a testament to how great they both look right now. However, over the last two weeks or so, the Spurs look better. They have the better net rating (14.9 to 12.9), the best offense and defense in the NBA. Quietly, the Spurs have surpassed the historic start to the season that the Warriors have built.
It doesn’t show in the win-loss record – for now – but the advance stats don’t lie. Right now, the Spurs are just clobbering its opponents.
But, don’t worry. If you don’t agree with my dethroning of the Warriors, they’ll be able to fix things right back. The Warriors and Spurs play January 25. Soon.
Here are this week’s NBA Power Rankings, in which the Spurs overtake the Warriors.
