Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs

Ah, good old Gregg Popovich. We can almost automatically insert him in this conversation every year, it seems. But what he and his Spurs have been able to do this season is beyond impressive, even by his insane standards.

The Spurs will win the most games this season than at any other point in franchise history. My guess is that they’ll finish with 68 or 69 wins. If they win their remaining five games, they’ll finish with 70 wins. And would become the third team in NBA history, behind Jordan’s Bulls and this year’s Warriors, to accomplish that feat.

If the Warriors weren’t on this record pace, the Spurs would be the talk of the NBA. Even though the Spurs did add LaMarcus Aldridge this summer, it’s not easy to put it all together on the run, and that’s exactly what Pop has done this season.
