NBA Rumors: One Trade That Every Team Should Make On Draft Night
By Mason McFee
Dallas Mavericks
Dallas gets: Boris Diaw, Kyle Anderson
San Antonio gets: Dirk Nowitzki
You know this was coming right?
While some of my trade ideas are a bit out there, this takes the cake. Dirk is the epitome of what the word ‘loyalty’ means. Not just in sports, but in life. You can’t root against him. It’s impossible. He’s still got the scoring touch, and a few good years of basketball left in him without a doubt.
Mark Cuban over the years has praised Dirk for his unselfishness and leadership, and would do anything for him.
Well Mr. Cuban, I’ll raise you one – would you trade him to a team where he actually stands a chance of winning a title?
Just fantasize with me for a minute – Tony Parker, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, Dirk, and Timmy Duncan. Or Dirk and Aldridge. Or Dirk off the bench.
Can you imagine the amount of post hooks and fadeaways Duncan and Dirk would be putting up making younger guys just shake their heads in awe?
If R.C. Buford found a way to make this happen before free agency begins, you’d have to think Duncan doesn’t retire, and the original Big 3 make one last push with their new +1.
Oh yeah…Dallas. Dallas enters into that awkward state teams do when they don’t want to rebuild but should and everyone knows it but they continue to be stubborn despite the fact they lose an important starter to free agency (cough Chandler Parsons cough) and keep missing out in free agency (cough DeAndre Jordan, Dwight Howard, etc. cough)
Diaw can fulfill the Zaza Pachulia role, and Kyle Anderson joins identical twin Justin Anderson as potential new faces of the franchise.
