New York Knicks

Notable Additions: Acquired Derrick Rose (via trade), signed Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee, Brandon Jennings

Forget the money for a bit, because every team’s signings are going to look surprising because of the salary cap explosion. What the Knicks have done of the last few weeks is quite impressive. I don’t think they’ve assembled a team that can compete for a championship, but they’re relevant now.

For a team in New York, that’s almost equally as important.

To kick off their impressive offseason, the Knicks traded for Derrick Rose. Even though he’s clearly not what he once was, he’s still a quality player to gamble on – he’s on an expiring contract. Even if he totally flops, he’ll sell tickets, bring intrigue to the team and won’t hurt their financial situation long term.

They also added Joakim Noah, Courtney Lee and Brandon Jennings in free agency. Those are all solid additions, especially if the former and latter can remain healthy. Perhaps the biggest was sandwiched in-between these two names – Lee.

Lee may not be the big name that the Knicks often desire in the free agent market, but he’s the type of player that every good team needs. He’s going to show up, do his job and won’t say much. He’s the perfect utility player for New York.
