Biggest Hole: Rim Protection

Tim Duncan may not have been the offensive player that he once was this past season, however, he was still quite good on the defensive end. Whether it was his ability to protect the paint or the Spurs’ scheme, whatever it was, he completed the Spurs defense.

As the Spurs essentially traded Duncan for Pau Gasol this summer, there’s a legitimate question surrounding how this team’s defense will look this season. Will Gasol be able to step into the role that Duncan perfectly filled for nearly the past two decades?

If nothing else, he’ll have to be some type of defensive force. I’m not sure he can be that. The Spurs wings better defend well, especially with LaMarcus Aldridge and Gasol, two notably bad defenders, being the last line of defense before the cup.
