After a disastrous first season with the Milwaukee Bucks, can Greg Monroe resurrect his career in 2016-17

The Milwaukee Bucks have been trying to trade Greg Monroe for quiet sometime. They reportedly tried to trade him at the trade deadline last season and now in the offseason, but no team seems to want him.

So that brings up the question, what if the Bucks can’t trade him and he’s forced to play another season with the team?

Now I know that isn’t something most Bucks fans want to see next season but if the team doesn’t get a reasonable offer, there is no reason to trade him. At worst, he can continue to be the sixth-man for the team, which will allow him to be the focal point of the second unit.

And at best, he can work on his defense and learn not to be a total sieve on that end of the floor.

He isn’t quick enough on his feet, so other teams continue to go at him in pick and rolls; forcing him to switch out onto smaller guards. It hurts the team’s defense and was one of the main reasons why Jason Kidd brought him off the bench.

If coach Kidd can find someway to hide his weaknesses on that end of the floor, it can go a long way in getting this defensive unit back to were it needs to be.

Greg Monroe’s offensive skill-set was one of the reasons why the Bucks chose to sign him, and he showed glimpses of being the dominant post presence they thought he’d be. Yet, he also showed off an inconsistent jump shot that wasn’t helpful to a team that’s already lacking in the shooting department.

But maybe the signings of Mirza Teletovic and Matthew Dellavedova can go a long ways in helping. Having those two (better) shooters next to Monroe will help spread the floor. It will force opposing defenses to think twice before choosing whether to double him in the post, because you’re going to have to leave Teletovic and Dellavedova open, and they can make shots.

So whatever the team decides to do, it’s ultimately up to management. However, despite the flack he has gotten, Monroe has shown that he’s a fine player in this league.

Now, whether the team decides to keep him or trade him remains to be seen – a lot of that might have to do with his market. But if he does come back, perhaps we see a more rejuvenated version of Greg Monroe, because last season he left Milwaukee Bucks fans with much to be desired.
