NBA Trade Rumors: The Detroit Pistons are reportedly shopping Reggie Jackson; most recently, to the Orlando Magic for expiring contracts

The Detroit Pistons really want to shake up their roster.

A year ago, the Pistons emerged as buyers at the NBA Trade Deadline. If you remember, Stan Van Gundy mustered a deal to steal Tobias Harris away from the Orlando Magic without having to give up a first-round pick.

This season, though, Detroit might be taking a different role at the deadline. As was already reported earlier this week, the Pistons are not ruling out the possibility of moving key core pieces, including Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond.

In another report, from ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Pistons reportedly discussed a deal revolving around a Jackson for D.J. Augustin and Jeff Green swap with the Orlando Magic.

"[via ESPN]The Pistons and Magic have discussed a trade that would send Reggie Jackson to Orlando for D.J. Augustin and Jeff Green, league sources say.Not yet clear if talks go past the “discussion” phase but Detroit, as @ZachLowe_NBA noted this week, has been exploring its Reggie options."

As Stein notes, this is not something that is close to a done deal. Heck, we don’t even know if this ever materialized into anything substantial. However, the fact that there was even a discussion is noteworthy.

It’s not know if the Pistons would’ve asked for a first-round pick to be attached to this deal, but from the looks of it this looks more like a play to cut salary for Detroit.

Perhaps they’re more interested in moving Jackson’s contract more than actually getting better at the moment. After setting career high is scoring and three-point percentage a year ago, Jackson has seen perceptive drops in points, field goal percentage and assists.

For a 26-year-old point guard that’s supposed to be entering the prime of his career, the fact that he’s regressed to a certain extent isn’t great. Taking it a step further, perhaps the Pistons know something about Jackson that we don’t.
