  • Metta World Peace, formerly known as Ron Artest, recently voiced out his honest opinions on The Herd with Colin Cowherd regarding the Cavs, LaVar Ball, the Golden State Warriors, Kobe Bryant and teammate D’Angelo Russell

When a guy like Kobe Bryant listens to you, then you must have something more than the average dude to get both the attention and more importantly, the respect of the Black Mamba. Metta World Peace is one of those rare guys.

So when he decides to share some of his opinions, it is quite inevitable to not listen to what he has to say.

Recently, he had a few surprising opinions about issues, teams and players in the NBA when he appeared in Colin Cowherd’s show, The Herd.

The Shouting Incident Between LeBron James and Tristan Thompson

Metta World Peace was asked by Colin Cowherd if he was cool about LeBron shouting at Tristan, and he said, “Absolutely. They need that. I wished they would have mic’d those players up…I would love to hear what they had to say.”

Furthermore, he was also asked if he shouted at teammates, and this is what he had to say, “Absolutely. Absolutely. For me, I’m different. I yell at you when you are not working hard and you are not shooting the ball. I like when my teammates shoot the ball. I get extremely upset when they don’t.”

Love the old-school mentality of Metta World Peace. There is absolutely nothing  wrong when basketball players shout at each other. It is nothing personal. It is a mere product of the competitiveness of guys who would really love to win. When LeBron shouted at Tristan Thompson, it was definitely, a good sign for the Cavs. It showed everyone that there was a deep desire to win regardless of the circumstances.

    Kobe Bryant

Eventually, Colin Cowherd asked, “Did Kobe ever yell at you?” And Metta’s answer was not surprising at all, but it was very hilarious as he said, “Yeah..(laughs)..for shooting the ball…(laughs even more)..Kobe yelled at me a couple of times.”

Classic Mamba right there. Darn, I miss Kobe a lot. Yet, the way Metta World Peace said it, it was just funny to imagine how Kobe yelled at him because Metta kept on shooting when all Kobe wanted to do was to jack up all possible shots out there.

Metta’s Take on the Golden State Warriors

Moving on, Cowherd asked World Peace about the Golden State Warriors and if within the league, players actually hated them? Interestingly, Metta had these things to say about the Dubs. “They’re too good. I hate good teams. I hate teams that are good because that means I’m losing, and I take that personally as a basketball player. So, you have to figure out how to beat these guys. The problem is, they are a team. They are a true definition of a team… You are trying to beat a team that is three years ahead of you. The Warriors are years and years ahead of everyone else.”

By all means, the Golden State Warriors are a very good basketball team. They have had another brilliant season, despite Kevin Durant’s recent injury. They look poise to win back the title that they lost. Still, they ain’t years ahead of everyone. I mean, to say that the Dubs are years ahead of everyone, is totally disrespectful to a team like San Antonio who has been a picture of excellence for 20-plus years.

  • Cowherd also brought up LaVar Ball, and this was Metta had to say, “I think he’s great. He’s something that we need at this time. He’s having a lot of fun. Ok, there were some things that he probably shouldn’t have said like talk about Michael Jordan, that’s something you should never do…But in terms of him, supporting his kids, I love his Baller Brand, especially if his kids play well, it will be big… He made one comment about the fathers and things like that… Not everyone is fortunate to grow up with great fathers. So, that is one thing that I didn’t agree with him.”

I agree with Metta. The more that we got to know LaVar’s antics, it also became easier to accept him as well and where he was coming from. I also think that Mr. Ball, as a dad, has, so far, succeeded in ensuring that his sons would get enough publicity to showcase their talents.

Still, the dad comments that LaVar Ball said were also something that I didn’t particularly agree with. I felt like this was disrespectful, especially, to all single moms who raised and took care of their sons and daughters very well. And with all due respect, some of these kids turned out even better than those who had two parents.

    D’Angelo Russell

Cowherd towards the end of the segment asked about D’Angelo Russell, whom Mr. Cowherd had doubts with, and this was what Metta World Peace said about the Lakers’ young point guard.

“He had 40 last week. As long as he has 40 every night, he’ll be great…There are some guys who don’t want the spotlight, he wants all of it. He is not afraid of the moment. He’s very mature. He’s young. Actually, he shouldn’t be mature, he’s only 20 years old.”

Key line from Metta, D’Angelo ain’t afraid of the moment. This a key characteristic of guys who end up being stars. At 20, maybe Lakers fans just need to be a little more patient with the young guard. Should they team him up with Lonzo? Why not? Lonzo is more of a facilitator. D’Angelo is more of a scorer. They are both big guards. I just feel like the combo would be perfect for the Lakers.
