NBA Rumors: The San Antonio Spurs are expecting Tony Parker to miss the remainder of the season with a leg injury

After losing Game 1 of their second-round series against the Houston Rockets in embarrassing fashion, the San Antonio Spurs responded in Game 2 in a big way. That’s the good news.

The bad news, however, is that they lost Tony Parker in the process. And from the sound of it, Parker may not play another minute for the Spurs this season.

According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Spurs expect Parker to undergo season-ending surgery on his injury left leg.

"[via The Vertical]San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker is expected to undergo season-ending surgery after sustaining a left leg injury Wednesday night, league sources told The Vertical. The team is expected to rule out Parker for the rest of the playoffs and schedule a procedure based on the outcome of the MRI exam, league sources said."

Tied at one game apiece, the series between the Rockets and Spurs now shifts to Houston. Not only will San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich have to prepare for the anticipated adjustments on the part of the Rockets, but they’ll also have to plan for life without Parker.

During this season, Parker averaged his lowest point per game (10.1) and assist per game (4.5) output since his rookie season. Although, during the playoffs, Parker has turned it on.

In the team’s first round series against the Grizzlies, Parker averaged 16 points and three assists on 53 percent shooting from the field.

Through the first two games against the Rockets, Parker was averaging 14.5 points and 3.5 assists on 50 percent shooting from the field. Specifically, in Game 2, Parker had 18 points and four assists.

Now, though, the onus will fall on Patty Mills, who is averaging 9.4 points on 48 percent shooting this playoffs, and Dejounte Murray, a rookie.

It’s never a good idea to count out the Spurs, but losing Parker, even though he’s only a shell of the player he used to be, will be a tough blow.
