2017 NBA Draft Rumors: As the Minnesota Timberwolves remain interested in a change at the point guard position, they are open to moving their 7th overall pick
On the surface, the Minnesota Timberwolves seem set at the point guard position. However, the whispers suggest otherwise.
According to 1500 ESPN’s Darren Wolfson, the Minnesota Timberwolves are still interested in upgrading their lead guard position. In his The Scoop podcast, Wolfson notes that Minnesota has interest in free agent point guards Jrue Holiday, George Hill and Jeff Teague. Interestingly, they don’t have much interest – despite other reports – in Derrick Rose.
Perhaps most noteworthy, though, Wolfson also notes that the Wolves are willing to move the No. 7 overall pick in next week’s NBA Draft.

"[via 1500 ESPN, transcribed by Real GM]The Wolves have interest in Jrue Holiday, George Hill and Jeff Teague. Holiday reportedly is willing to consider leaving the New Orleans Pelicans if he receives a four-year max deal. Minnesota doesn’t have strong interest in Derrick Rose.…The Wolves are also interested in trading out of No. 7."
First things first, I have no idea what the Minnesota Timberwolves are doing – or planning – but the fact that they can’t trust Ricky Rubio or Kris Dunn at this point is quite concerning.
And the Wolves likely don’t have many other options, unless they elect to take ANOTHER point guard in the top 10. With Tom Thibodeau at the helm, that’s probably highly unlikely.
So that leaves Minnesota with the free agent option. And the only really likely one is probably Jeff Teague, unless they’re on board with giving near-max contracts to Holiday or Hill – which I believe would be a mistake.
The Wolves could also call up a team like the Miami Heat and dangle the No. 7 pick for Goran Dragic, and then move Ricky Rubio to a third team. However, with Gordon Hayward being linked to the Miami Heat, moving a player like Dragic would almost disqualify them on that front.
