NBA Trade Rumors: Days ahead of the 2017 NBA Draft, the Houston Rockets are reportedly actively trying to trade Patrick Beverley

In the past few days, the NBA rumor mill has been nonstop. During the last couple of days, we’ve heard the names Jimmy Butler, Paul George, Kristaps Porzingis and D’Angelo Russell involved in potential trades.

If that wasn’t enough, two days before the 2017 NBA Draft, now it appears that the Houston Rockets are trying to trade Patrick Beverley.

According to Sporting News, the Rockets are “actively” shopping the defensive-minded point guard ahead of Thursday’s NBA Draft.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via Sporting News]The Rockets have been actively shopping point guard Patrick Beverley ahead of this week’s draft, a source with knowledge of the situation told Sporting News on Tuesday.Beverley, who averaged 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season, has been open to a trade away from Houston leading into this offseason, the source said, and has consulted with the team about the possible move. The Rockets could get a deal done before Thursday’s draft."

In an a attempt to open a big more of cap space this summer, the Rockets are willing to move Beverley. However, trading Beverley will only open up $5 million in additional cap space. Perhaps the Rockets will be able to gain a first-round pick, which could be used in another move to open a bit more.

The good news is that Beverley’s contract will likely be easy to move. He’s only due a little more than $5 million next season, and has a $5 million team option for next season. Any team that makes a move for Beverley will likely exercise that option. Especially considering the amount of stupid money that has been flying around in free agency the last couple of seasons.

Beverley is a solid starting point guard in the NBA. If asked to be a backup, he’s a really good one.
