The Good: Chandler Hutchison started off the game scorching hot scoring the Broncos first 16 points in the game. In that first hot streak, Hutchison knocked down three shots from long range. One of the biggest knocks on him coming into the season was 3-point consistency.
On top of his 3-pointers, in Hutchison’s first 16 points he attacked the rim hard. He showed good speed with a quick first step, and made some tough contested layups, making great use of his hop step on most of his layups to create space at the rim.
After his scoring streak to start the game, Chandler Hutchinson impressed with a tighter handle than he gets credit for. He worked nicely off on ball screens and was able to pull up and get to the rim. Hutchison also showed the ability to handle the ball in tight spaces often pushing in transition, and weaving his way through defenders.
The Bad: Hutchison only attempted two left handed layups all game. His left hand was absolutely nonexistent. About half way through the first half the San Diego State defenders finally caught on. They were trying to force Hutchison left, but he wouldn’t go left.
He scored with his right even though the defenders knew what was coming. However, he’s not that good to be able to do that at the next level.
This was surprising since Chandler Hutchison usually plays the game with a high IQ offensively, but he played with no defensive instincts. It would have been nice to see Hutchison guard an NBA type of athlete like Malik Pope or Xavier Mcdaniel. Instead Boise State hid him on lesser players.
He made a few bad closeouts and didn’t do a great job recovering even though he was far more superior athletically to be able to recover. He also had a few plays where he didn’t step up in help defense. His lack of help gave up some buckets at the rim for the Aztecs.
The only last complaint is it would have been nice to see some more consistency shooting from NBA range. Two of his three 3-pointers he missed were from NBA range.
Overall Outlook: Nobody can really take away too much from Chandler Hutchison’s game. When you score as efficiently as he did. Making a difference scoring both off the ball, and with the ball in his hands.

The weaknesses are really just nitpicking and looking for something to criticize and take away from this awesome individual effort. The only real weaknesses here are the lack of his left hand and not closing out better, and playing off ball defense.
Hutchison definitely helped his draft stock. He showed off some deceptive speed and tight handle that hasn’t really been seen. If Chandler Hutchison continues to consistently knock down his 3, he should be a sure fire late first round pick.
