Underwhelming matchup leads to an unexpected emergence
Hudson Catholic played the John Carroll school on Monday. It featured two of the top prospects both 5-star point guards according to ESPN. The highly anticipated matchup was between Imannuel Quickley and Jahvon Quinerly.
Both Quickley and Quinerly were very underwhelming. Quickley one of the most likely one and done prospects at his position didn’t shoot the ball or make plays well. Although he did face some problems in particularly in the second half by Luther Muhammad.
Muhammad is barely in the ESPN Top 100 and is commited to play at Ohio State. He owned Immanuel Quickley all game. Faceguarding him when he didn’t have the ball and barely gave him any room to breathe. It was very high level defense and Muhammad had 17 points showing he’s a lethal combo guard on both ends of the court.
Jahvon Quinerly drew the Quickley assignment when Luther Muhammad was in foul trouble. Quinerly couldn’t handle the future Kentucky guard at all. Quickley was just physically too much for Quinerly.
Even though Jahvon Quinerly might be one of the best ball handlers and passers in this class he’s not a one and done. He’s slightly undersized for his postion and needs to desperately get in the weight room. Also, Quinerly has yet to really apply himself on the defensive end of the floor.
Jahvon Quinerly is still an NBA prospect, but he’s just more of a 2-3 year guy in college rather than a one and done. Also Luther Muhammad could be an interesting guy to track at Ohio State over the next few years.
