NBA Trade Rumors: The Miami Heat are reportedly interested in trading for LA Clippers guard Lou Williams; Can they afford him?
Now that Blake Griffin is in Detroit, the LA Clippers are expected to go on a fire sale between now and next week’s NBA trade deadline.
While most of the attention will be on DeAndre Jordan over the next few days, Lou Williams could potentially be the team’s most interesting trade piece to watch. Williams, who is a free agent after the season, is averaging a career high 24 points and five assists on 39 percent shooting from 3-point range (also a career best).
And there are a number of teams that are expected to be in the running for Williams – including the Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat.

"[via Sporting News]The Clips’ Lou Williams is also the subject of plenty of trade rumors, as Toronto, Boston, Detroit and Miami are all seen as places he might wind up by the deadline. The Heat would like Williams to take the place of the injured Dion Waiters."
While it’s no real surprise that the Raptors and Celtics are interested in Williams – contenders are usually the big buyers at the trade deadline – it’s at least somewhat interesting that a team like the Heat is, at least, in the conversation.
This could very well be just a Riley checking in type of thing, and could very well be nothing more than just doing their due diligence. Taking it a step further, assuming that the Clippers would be asking for a first-round pick, at least, in their quest to move Williams, it makes things even more complicated for the Heat.
Miami doesn’t have first-round picks to trade, and would almost have to include a young player like Bam Adebayo and/or Justise Winslow in order for the Clippers to even consider making a swap with the Heat.
Although, Lou Williams, in the midst of his career season, could be an interesting mid-season addition for a team like the Heat. Over the last five games, the Heat has the NBA’s worst offense in the league. In fairness, they do have the best defense during that span. Still, the team’s offense seems stagnant way too much.
