NBA Draft: 2018 McDonald’s All-American first impressions
By Connor Harr
Bol Bol, C, Oregon
Composite Ranking: 4
There’s no question Bol Bol has plenty of skill for a player of his size. However, I’m not sure yet if I’m buying into all these skills. He has rim protection value with absurd length. The question is where he fits in on offense and how much strength can he add.
His lack of strength leads him to score solely on the perimeter. Pretty much only as a jump shooter because Bol Bol isn’t advanced enough of a ball handler to put in on the floor with consistency once he gets into the NBA. Realistically Bol Bol could max out as an NBA player who protects the rim and is a stationary 3-point shooter.
He’s not going to bang for rebounds until he adds more strength, and he probably doesn’t shoot as consistently as you want him to right now to be a stand still jump shooter. He’s a player that will bring the opposing teams rim protector like a DeAndre Jordan away from the hoop, but then gets absolutely manhandled playing defense trying to deal with that size. With improved strength there’s no question he could end up being a solid player.
