NBA Rumors: DeAndre Jordan reportedly wants to play with the Houston Rockets, but even as he prepares for free agency it’s not that cut and dry

If DeAndre Jordan has it his way, he’s going to be playing next to Chris Paul once again next season.

But not on the LA Clippers, no. According to a report from USA Today, Jordan wants to play with the Houston Rockets.

Just a few months ago there were whispers that Jordan wanted to be dealt to the Rockets, and this is not really something new. However, considering that Jordan is about to become a free agent next month, this now becomes an interesting angle that we must digest ahead of what will likely be one of the busiest NBA summers in quite some time.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via USA Today]Kelly Iko of USA Today‘s Rockets Wire reported the news, noting Jordan “has remained focused on the possibility of playing” in his hometown of Houston. The report said Jordan told multiple Rockets players as much during the season."

The big problem with this storybook ending for Jordan as he prepares to hit free agency is the fact that the Rockets kind of already have their man in the middle – Clint Capela.

And he’s probably, maybe already what Jordan is, if not a better player at this point in both of their careers. The only way it could make sense for Houston to take on Jordan while letting Capela walk in free agency is if the former takes a discount. Simply put, I can’t really see that happening at this point and time.

Swapping Jordan for Capela doesn’t really improve the Rockets much, if at all. Capela is a number of years younger than Jordan and could even have a higher ceiling than the former Texas A&M player.

Nevertheless, this is another storyline that we must keep in line as free agency approaches.
