Carmelo Anthony, Oklahoma City Thunder

Depending on what happens with Paul George, though there’s a growing sense that he could re-sign with the team this summer, the Oklahoma City Thunder will likely test the trade waters on Carmelo Anthony. He’s expected to opt into the final year of his contract, securing his $28 million payday.

If George returns, Anthony doesn’t really fit in. He struggled during his time with the Thunder this past season and the team overall didn’t manage to live up to expectations either. The big issue is finding a team that would take on Anthony. Even though he’s an expiring contract, there aren’t that many teams with that type of flexibility – even for one season.

Carmelo is on the backend of his hall of fame career, but still believes he’s in his prime. That’s probably the biggest issue at play here. Unless that changes, teams aren’t going to jump at the opportunity to take a flier on him.
