Carmelo will make the Rockets worse

This has become a popular one over the last few weeks. Ever since it became common knowledge that Carmelo Anthony was going to join the Houston Rockets, the takes began to soar. Melo will make the Rockets worse, even more so after the team lost Trevor Ariza this offseason.

While on the surface that may seem like a smart take, it’s not exactly fair considering that we have no idea how Mike D’Antoni plans on using Melo. Will he use him simply at the 3, as Ariza’s replacement? If so, that could be problematic.

However, MDA is much smarter than that. Melo is at his best at this stage of his career at the 4, and it honestly wouldn’t be surprising to see MDA get ultra creative and use him as a 5 at times. Houston may be worse next season, but it won’t be all on Carmelo Anthony. Not at all.
