NBA Rumors: Wolves’ Jimmy Butler may not report to camp
NBA Rumors: Minnesota Timberwolves’ disgruntled star Jimmy Butler may not report to camp, which would make things all the more complicated
It’s one thing to try and facilitate your way out of an organization through the media, which Jimmy Butler is clearly trying to do with the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, it’s an entirely different thing to try and force the organization’s hand by completely not showing up to work, which is something that Butler could do next.
And this would be the perfect move, if you honestly believe that Tom Thibodeau doesn’t really want to trade Butler right now. If Jimmy B wants out now, this is probably what needs to be done.
According to Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, not reporting to camp is on the table for Butler.

"Now he wants out. And there remains a real possibility that he will not report to training camp next week if a trade has not been consummated, sources said."
The Wolves officially report for media day September 25, where all the players are supposed to show up and speak to the media about the upcoming NBA season. It’s where we usually hear player speak, but often get the fun moments before grueling training camps begin.
Pre-season games then begin a few days after opening camp. However, if Butler doesn’t show up, it could put even more pressure on management to try and resolve the issue. The last thing the Wolves need is this to remain in the news cycle.
And let’s remember, Karl-Anthony Towns reportedly isn’t going to sign his long-term extension until this Jimmy Butler stuff is all resolved, no matter where it leads.
Even if the Wolves don’t want to trade Butler, they need to get their ducks in a line and figure out if it’s a forgone conclusion or not. Because of the possible repercussions it could have on other decisions that they still have to make before the season officially starts.
