NBA: LeBron’s Lakers, Fultz and more big questions after opening week
Is it time to recalibrate expectations for the Lakers?
Through the first week of the season, the Los Angeles Lakers are 0-3. When LeBron James made the move to Los Angeles, many penciled in the Lakers as a playoff team and a potential top 3 seed in the Western Conference.
However, after getting off to an 0-3 start, is it time to recalibrate those same expectations for the Lakers this season? Let’s take a look at a few statistics before really coming to a conclusion here first.
The team’s offense isn’t terrible. In fact, they sport a top 10 unit in the league. However, their defense has been atrocious through three games. They are currently ranked 26th on that side of the ball. They are also the third worst 3-point shooting team in the NBA. And in a climate where the 3-point shot is as important as ever, that’s not a great note.
Could this just be a rough start for Los Angeles? Absolutely. However, the longer that these statistics linger, the more worrisome this becomes. But the schedule doesn’t ease up at all for the Lakers over the next few days, with games against the Phoenix Suns, Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs up next.
