Roster

Entering the season, I’m not sure if any expert or talking head confused the Lakers with having a contending roster. After signing LeBron, the Lakers followed that blockbuster move by brining back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, JaVale McGee, Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson.

LeBron was no question a home run for the team, but they simply didn’t surround him with that talent that the Lakers needed to be serious contenders in the Western Conference. Which is understandable considering that they didn’t have much money to work with after bringing in LeBron.

They tried to solve that by making a big splash at the NBA Trade Deadline by making a move for Anthony Davis, but that ended with the Lakers brining in Mike Muscala instead. This roster was – and still is – flawed, but it was clear from the start of the season that the Lakers were in no place to compete in the Western Conference this season.
