NBA Draft: Prospects who are trending up heading into the Final Four
By Tron Griffin
Carsen Edwards, Purdue
Edwards biggest problem is his size. He is listed at 6-foot-1 on Purdue’s website, but was measured at 5-foot-10 during last year’s NBA Draft Combine. He sort of reminds me of Illinois former Big 10 and National Player of the Year point guard Dee Brown who was drafted in the mid-second round of the 2006 NBA draft.
Edwards did improve his chances of being drafted this year by scoring 42 points against Villanova, 29 points against Tennessee and 42 points in the Elite 8 against Virginia. He proved he could take the ball to the basket and get his shot off against taller defenders with ease on the national stage. The bottom line for Edwards is that he is fast and a streaky 3-point shooter who should get drafted early in the second round or late in the first round.
The bottom line for Edwards is that he is fast and a good 3-point shooter who should get drafted early in the second round. In this new NBA, a scoring point guard like Edwards could make a big impact with the second unit if he never gets a chance to start.
