Even after their first-round playoff exit, this season will be looked back as a complete success for the Orlando Magic. I don’t think anyone will argue with that statement. However, with that said, that doesn’t mean it’s OK for this franchise to default back to auto-pilot heading into the summer. There needs to be improvements, and hopefully another step forward.
That’s where hitting a home run in the NBA Draft comes into play, and the Magic could take a step in potentially doing that by adding an intriguing prospect in Keldon Johnson. At 6-foot-6, Johnson is the type of player that will likely be able to play multiple positions at the next level. He’s a good rebounder for his position and showed the ability to hit a consistent outside jumper, which is important for any player hoping to make a living at the next level.
Johnson averaged 14 points and six rebounds per game on 46 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent from 3-point range. He would be a good addition to a team that is already adding Markelle Fultz next season. The Magic’s future doesn’t look all that bleak anymore.
