Let’s state the obvious here, and it’s that the New York Knicks struck out in free agency and resorted to signing three power forwards. OK, Julius Randle could end up being a great signing, but let’s not ignore like the goal was always Kevin Durant heading into the summer.

New York is a bit in an awkward situation where they need a star – desperately. And instead of waiting and hoping that either RJ Barrett or Kevin Knox blossoms into one in the come years, or hope they land one during the summer of 2021, via free agency again, New York could go get one in the way of Russell Westbrook.

New York would be a great fit, as they need someone to dominate the ball and lead the way for their young core. He could also help open the gates for another star in the not-so-far future. Perhaps even recruit one in 2021.

The Knicks may have missed out on Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but if they really want a star they could pursue Westbrook.
