NBA: 7 best under-the-radar free agent signings of 2019
By Kyle Crabbe
Enes Kanter, Boston Celtics
Position: C
Age: 27
With the Boston Celtics losing Al Horford in free agency to the Philadelphia 76ers, there was no one move that the team was going to make to fill the void that he was going to leave both on and off the court. While he may not fit the bill, adding Enes Kanter was a nice move for the Celtics who will, no question, help on the offensive side of the ball.
Kanter might not be as versatile as Horford is – on either the offensive or defensive side of the ball – but brings his own units set of talents to the team.
Kanter is one of the NBA’s best rebounders and is one of the perimeter interior scorers in the league. There’s a good chance that Kanter enters camp as the projected starting center for the Celtics, but he will have to prove that he can play on the defensive side of the ball. Especially under Brad Stevens, that’s a necessity for any big minutes player for the Celtics.
If nothing else, Kanter will bring a high level of toughness, offensive can-do and rebounding to the Celtics. Kanter might not be the ultimate answer to the team replacing Al Horford, but he is definitely a step in the right direction.
