NBA: 7 best under-the-radar free agent signings of 2019
By Kyle Crabbe
Derrick Rose, Detroit Pistons
Position: PG
Age: 30
Derrick Rose’s career has, unfortunately, had many ups and downs as the 2011 NBA MVP will officially suit up for his fifth team during his NBA career. Coming off his best season in recent history, though, Rose is now in a position where he can continue this recent rejuvenation with the Detroit Pistons.
Blessed with one of the best frontcourts in the Eastern Conference – Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond – there’s no reason for Rose not to have, at the very least, some success in the backcourt.
The Pistons need point guard depth, especially with the oft-injured Reggie Jackson in the starting 5, and that’s exactly what Rose will bring to the team. Rose will be able to run the second (or first) unit effectively, while also getting out (with ease) in the open floor while breaking down defenses in the halfcourt.
Rose to the Pistons was quietly one of the best signings of the summer and could help the Pistons take the next step in the East. If Rose can remain healthy, there’s no question that the Pistons will be able to surprise a team or two in the race towards the playoffs this season.
