Wendell Carter Jr

Wendell Carter Jr. had his rookie season shortened with a thumb injury and ultimately played in 44 games. Prior to his injury, he showcased the talent that the Bulls front office envisioned. He showed elite defensive instincts and the athleticism to defend at a high level. Also, an offensive repertoire that resembles Al Horford

He finished the season averaging 10.3 points and seven rebounds while adding 1.3 blocks per game in 25 minutes per contest. Wendell Carter’s health is essential for this franchise to take the next step in their rebuild. The pairing of Carter and Markkanen provides the league with one of the best rising frontcourts. A tandem of bigs that compliment each other’s strengths to a high degree.

Carter’s rookie season was a rocky one; the coaching change from Fred Hoiberg to Jim Boylen didn’t help. With Boylen taking over and putting emphasis on defense, Carter became more hesitant on the offensive end and spent a majority of the time looking to pass. Entering year two he’ll have a better understanding of how the head coach would like his offense ran. And with an improved offensive game I foresee an uptick in points.

I expect the sophomore to average a double-double this season and become this teams leader on defense.
