Marquee summer move: Whiffing on Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving
It’s no secret that the New York Knicks were big-game hunting heading into the 2019 NBA offseason. They had their wide eyes on the prospects of adding Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving or both. In the end, they ended up throwing their money at Julius Randle.
New York didn’t even win the NBA Draft Lottery (with the best odds) and had to settle for RJ Barrett with the third overall pick. Even when everything lined up for the Knicks to have a great offseason, they managed to screw it up and whiff on nearly every top target that they had in mind.
All is not lost, though, as Barrett has the chance to be a really good player in the NBA. The Knicks are likely headed for another rough season in 2020. But, hey, maybe they can land Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021?
