A new Andrew Wiggins
For the first few years of his career, Andrew Wiggins has largely been a disappointment. He’s been the butt of the joke and has constantly fallen short of expectations during his time with the Minnesota Timberwolves. This season, at least through the first month of the season, that has all changed.
Wiggins is having the best year of his career thus far, averaging 25 points, five rebounds and three assists per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 34 percent from 3-point range – all numbers that are career highs for the six-year pro. He also has the Wolves in contention for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
If Wiggins can remain on this pace for the entire NBA season, there’s no question that this will be considered a revival to his career. Over the summer, many were criticizing the Wolves for giving Wiggins the big-money extension that they did. Many categorized Wiggins’ contract as the worst in the league. Now, that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s been quite a change of narrative.
