Kevin Love will not be moved, but Tristan Thompson will be
The Cleveland Cavaliers have plenty of trade ammo but not a vast market for their arsenal. And that tends to be a problem for a team that is trying to be a seller at the NBA Trade Deadline. While there’s a growing sense that the team won’t be able to find a landing spot for Kevin Love by the deadline, I will predict that Cleveland will ship off Tristan Thompson.
Thompson is an expiring contract and is still young enough to find a defensive niche in the right situation. While he has struggled recently on that end of the floor, Thompson has all the tools to be effective and game-changing in spurts.
Any contender in need of frontcourt depth should look towards the expiring contract of Thompson, even if it just a rental for the remainder of the season. Thompson on a contender with a loaded roster could be a huge x-factor come playoff time.
