Jeff Green’s NBA story is an inspiring one, to say the least. After suffering an aortic root aneurysm, a serious condition of the heart, Green was forced to miss the entire 2011-12 campaign and question whether he would ever play in the league again.

But Green persevered and recovered, and as did his career. Over his 11 years in the NBA, Green has been an solid role player, averaging 13 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field. But since 2015, Green’s career has been a revolving door of different teams, spending time on six clubs over that stretch.

Green was last waived by the Utah Jazz after playing 30 games with the club in 2019-20, and you don’t have to look too deep into the numbers to see why. The veteran put up some of the worst numbers of his career, averaging a career-low 7.8 points per game. His efficiency slipped along with the production, shooting a career-low 38.5 percent from the field.

While some of this comes with age, some of the blame can be attributed to Green’s limited role with the Jazz. In the right system that fits his style of play, Green may once again find his place onto an NBA roster.

Green has signed the veteran’s minimum on his last three contracts. For a team without much cap space, the veteran presents an economical option with experience up for grabs in NBA free agency.
