In this week’s NBA Sunday Social, the Thunder trumped the Knicks but that was not the biggest highlight from inside the garden. And, Jrue Holiday displayed some nice girl dad skills.
Due to their lack of success, the New York Knicks have failed to give their fans a lot of special nights over the past 20 or so years. For fans in New York to see special, great, or even good basketball inside what was once known as the basketball mecca the performance has often come via the opponent.
On Friday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder put on a clinic inside Madison Square Garden. Oklahoma City defeated New York 126-103 while building their lead as large as 34-points. However, what made the contest so special is what happened before the ball was even tipped up.
During a special pregame ceremony both the Thunder and Knickerbockers honored each other’s communities. Oklahoma City recognized those impacted by the 9/11 attacks, whereas the Knickerbockers honored those affected by the Oklahoma City Bombing. Check out full highlights from the event below:
Coming together
Two cities, an unbreakable bond and a memorable night of reuniting and remembering. Thank you @OKCNM @Sept11Memorial @nyknicks.

Give me the latter
Russ the last two months has played at a higher level and contributed to winning hoops more than he did at any point in his OKC tenure. https://t.co/YsL9zqBmq9

Let the voters vote
I really enjoy the ROY discourse. With no clear guideline for the award, everyone gets to decide for themselves whether it’s a value added award, or a best player award. No right answer! Fun talk. Or at least, the potential to be.

Bold statement Skip
Nobody in the NBA is faster dribbling the basketball than Lonzo Ball is. Tonight, he's running 4.2 40s for layups.

Does it feel like LeBron isn’t getting enough love for MVP?

Fat and muscle are not the same thing
In regards to opinion that Zion needs to lose weight. What is the main reasoning or do you think he is fine where he is at?
— Carl (@onpointcarl) March 2, 2020
For example would he get faster, be healthier, less adverse to injury etc..
Or would he lose strength? Athletically his weight doesnt seem to hamper him
Proving the haters wrong
LeBron is a legend
In my lifetime Lebron James is the only player who not only lived up to his hype he exceeded it...
— Ricky G (@jrichardgoodman) March 2, 2020
Westbrook is also a legend
People ignore context with everything. Westbrook is killing right now, because he has circumstances that mute his weaknesses. There’s space. He doesn’t feel the need to shoot 3s, because he can get to the cup at Will with a spread floor. Circumstances color approach!

It just depends
The Sixers have a 20 year old 1st rd pick that does not get a lot of playing time. Are they hurting his development or is that just a Knicks issue?

Almost every night something great happens in the NBA
Okay, I’ll do it
Candace Parker has become the most influential player in the WNBA when it comes to mainstream marketing, endorsements, visibility, social media. Someone needs to write THAT article. And rewind it all the way back to when they didn’t select her for the Olympic team. I’ll wait.

This was a difficult week. Because both of these high notes were so good, I couldn’t just choose one. Both are family-centric, first up is the James Gang, last week we saw LeBron and Savannah’s two sons were dancing together, this week they danced together as a family.
Shifting to the second high note, ESPN put together a splendid highlight reel of the Holiday family centered around Jrue Holiday, his wife Lauren, and their daughter Jrue Tyler.
