NBA Rumors: Resumption of the season could be pushed to August

Despite the growing hope around the possibility of resuming the 2019-20 NBA season, there’s still no set-in-stone plan or schedule for how it will look like or when it’s safe to return. There have been whispers that the season could be resumed in July in Orlando but it’s nothing more than just that – whispers.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, even though you’d think that a July restart of the season is the target window, there’s still a chance that the league doesn’t resume the 2019-20 NBA season until August.

That would essentially give the NBA either a few more weeks to prepare for protocols that will need to be in place to ensure safety to its players, or give teams and players a bit more time to prepare for playing in the bubble in Orlando.

At the moment, the NBA is reportedly eyeing Walt Disney World as a potential “bubble” site to resume the season. Though, nothing is a done deal yet. Perhaps that’s something that could change in the coming days and weeks, and maybe we get an announcement sooner rather than later, but at least right now there’s no certainty in any plan to resume the season.

Essentially, that means that every possible scenario is still on the table. And that not only includes a timetable for when the season will resume, but it also includes how the season will be resumed.

Whether that’s picking up with a few regular-season games for each team to play, jumping straight into the playoffs, or concluding the season with one big tournament – or perhaps a playoff play-in tournament.

Despite the encouraging signs that have emerged in recent weeks, the NBA is still in a state of flux. While many believe the resumption of the season will eventually take place, I’m not sure that’s something that would be considered a done deal by all parties involved.

The hope is that changes in the next few days. Hopefully, we’ll get an announcement from the league soon. Until then, though, this is all just one big waiting game.
