NBA trade candidates: One of DeMar DeRozan/LaMarcus Aldridge or both, San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs could be one of the most active teams during the 2020 NBA offseason. This is a team that is in desperate need of a new identity and a bit of retooling, if not a full-blown rebuild. The Spurs have two big-name candidates that could be on the move during the summer: DeMar DeRozan and/or LaMarcus Aldridge.

DeRozan is a free agent after the 2020-21 season but is no longer a player that fits into the long-term plans for the Spurs. Or, at least, you wouldn’t expect that. Especially if he’s looking for one more big payday. The same could be echoed about Aldridge. Though, if he opts out after the 2019-20 season, he could test free agency this summer.

However, with the continued uncertainty that remains, it would be highly unlikely for him to enter free agency this summer. Maybe he does, but I believe he’ll hold it off a year and hope that some normalcy begins to fall back into place in the NBA over the course of the next 6-12 months.

Either way, the Spurs should be active this summer. It would actually be surprising if they weren’t.
