14. Boston Celtics (via Memphis) – Precious Achiuwa, F, Memphis
As a defensive-specialist, there aren’t many teams that wouldn’t benefit from having Precious Achiuwa on its roster. However, there are real concerns about his ability to play any type of offensive role in the NBA. Achiuwa is considered a raw, developing prospect and will need time to grow into his game.
The Boston Celtics could be that team. He won’t be asked to play a big role, if any at all, initially in Boston and he could learn the NBA ropes from the likes of Kemba Walker, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, and Marcus Smart. Plus, having a brilliant basketball mind like Brad Stevens wouldn’t hurt.
Any team that selects Achiuwa in the draft will need patience and have to be a growing ground for potential. There’s a ton to like about Achiuwa’s potential over the course of the next 2-3 years. The question is, however, which team will be the one to unlock said potential? For a team as talented as the Celtics, they might be the perfect opportunity.
