The rise of Michael Porter Jr.
Michael Porter Jr. showed flashes during the pre-hiatus regular season but really came on (somewhat by necessity) during the NBA’s restart. During the pre-hiatus regular season, Porter only averaged nine points and five rebounds. In the seven games in the bubble, Porter averaged 22 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
Porter played so well in the restart that Mike Malone has already said the plan is to keep him in the starting lineup to start the playoffs. If Porter can continue to build off his impressive stint in the bubble, it could help the Nuggets’ offense reach the next level in its progression. He makes this team that much more dangerous and gives the Nuggets another player that could drop 30 points on any given night.
The rise of Michael Porter Jr. wasn’t a surprise for those that know how talented he is. Porter is explosive from anywhere on the floor and really just needs to be more consistent on the defensive end.
If the Nuggets make a deep run in the playoffs, there’s a good chance that Michael Porter Jr. will play a big role.
