1. Minnesota Timberwolves – Anthony Edwards, G, Georgia
There might not be a safer pick inside the top 3 or 4, depending on where you rank him than Anthony Edwards. Much like Ball, Edwards has great size and has shown the ability to play both guard positions. He translates as a good defender and would benefit most by playing next to an established guard if possible.
Even though he averaged 19 points per game during his freshman season at Georgia, there are concerns about his offensive efficiency – he only shot 40 percent from the field and sub-30 percent from 3-point range. If Edwards is going to be a huge contributor at the NBA-level, that will have to change. Perhaps it does with NBA coaches and by taking less of an offensive burden for a team.
Edwards would be a great fit next to D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns in Minnesota and would be a great asset for the team moving forward. If he can embrace the defensive end of the floor, he could unlock this team’s potential.
