11. San Antonio Spurs – RJ Hampton, G, New Zealand
For the San Antonio Spurs, it’s almost impossible to predict what this roster will look like by the time next season begins. There’s a chance that both DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge could be off the roster and if that’s the case, there are good odds that whoever the Spurs pick with the No. 11 pick will need to play at least some role on opening night.
One potential player that could be selected at this point in the draft, one that also happens to have at least some star potential, is RJ Hampton. Heading into last season, Hampton was one of the biggest names in recruiting. He joined LaMelo Ball to play in the Nationa Basketball League but didn’t have the best of showings.
In his lone season with New Zealand (15 games), Hampton averaged just nine points and four rebounds on 41 percent shooting from the field and 30 percent shooting from 3-point range. Listed as 6-foot-5, there is plenty to like. He’s athletic, long, and will likely be able to play multiple positions at his peak.
In the right development system, there’s a chance that Hampton could be a really good player.
