The New York Knicks might pivot away from Barrett, Robinson

In the event that the Knicks acquire Chris Paul and they see some (false hope) results in their first season, I wouldn’t be surprised if New York doubles down and tries to add on to Paul and moves one of RJ Barrett or Mitchell Robinson. That would be an epic disaster, but also a scenario that wouldn’t exactly be all that surprising.

We’ve seen the Knicks do it before and they need to avoid doing it again this time around. This team’s future should belong to RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson (short of another big-name superstar elects to sign with the team during the 2021 free agency). Until that happens, every move that the Knicks make should revolve around Barrett and Robinson.

Even though you can make the case that acquiring Chris Paul would exactly be that – he’d be the playmaker that Barrett needs next to him and would do wonders for Robinson’s offensive game – but I would be afraid of the repercussions.

Quite frankly, the New York Knicks have some trust-building to do. In a change of identity, it’s time that they do it through a rebuild. Maybe taking a point guard with the No. 8 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft would make much more sense.
